The Chief Economist Of The European Central Bank Believes That Inflation In The Euro Zone Will Not Last

Philip Lane, chief economist of the European Central Bank, said that current inflation in the euro zone is not a trigger for monetary policy actions, but because service prices and wage growth remain weak. Lien said at a meeting that in the medium term, inflation is still some distance away from 2%, and this is not a trigger for monetary policy actions. He added that it is difficult to believe that this trend will last until the recent trend of price increases starts to spread from commodity prices to services and wages.
