Barkin Sees Chance Of Fed Rate Hike In March

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Richmond Fed President Barkin said that the Fed is likely to raise interest rates in March. Barkin, who does not have a vote on monetary policy this year, supported in November that the Fed should be patient. In addition, San Francisco Fed Bank President Daly said on Friday that the Fed may begin to shrink its balance sheet after raising interest rates one or two times. The remarks raised market expectations for the Fed to accelerate monetary tightening, driving the US 10-year bond rate to rise for seven consecutive days, hitting a level of 1.808% at one point, the longest rise since April 2018.
