New Virus "Deltacron" Has Infected 25 People

According to foreign media reports, the Mediterranean island country of Cyprus (Cyprus) has been shocked to discover a new mutant that combines Delta and Omicron mutant viruses, causing concern in the scientific community. Leondios Kostrikis, a professor of biological sciences and head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology at the University of Cyprus, said a local COVID-19 strain that combines Delta and Omicron was found in the Delta gene sequence, Bloomberg reported. Has a genetic imprint similar to Omicron, hence the name "Deltacron". The report pointed out that so far, Kostrikis and his team have found 25 confirmed cases of Deltacron, but it is too early to determine whether there are more potential confirmed cases, or the possible impact of Deltacron. Of the 25 confirmed cases of Deltacron identified in Cyprus, 11 were from patients critically hospitalized with COVID-19 and 14 were from non-hospitalized cases, local English-language media Cyprus Mail reported. of patients with confirmed COVID-19.
