Eurozone consumer confidence rebounds to -16.9 in April

The European Commission announced that the euro zone consumer confidence index in April rose to minus 16.9 month-on-month, slightly up 1.8 index points from the previous 22-month low, and also better than market expectations of minus 20. As for the EU's overall consumer confidence index, it rose 2 index points to minus 17.6. Although European consumer confidence is better than market expectations, the unresolved crisis in Russia and Ukraine, coupled with high inflation in the region or prompting the European Central Bank to tighten monetary policy early, may continue to weigh on consumer and business confidence.
