U.S. new jobless claims hit nearly 53-year low last week

The number of new claims for unemployment benefits in the United States fell sharply to 166,000 last week, a near 53-year low, a decrease of 5,000 from the previous value, and the market had expected 200,000. During the period, the number of people who continued to apply for unemployment benefits increased by 17,000 to 1.523 million, compared with the original market expectation of 1.311 million. Although the number of people filing weekly unemployment benefits in the United States hit a record, the number of people who continued to file for unemployment benefits was revised up sharply by nearly 200,000, which partially offset the market's optimism that the labor market will continue to recover.
