German economy minister says local natural gas inventories are sufficient

German Economy Minister Harbeck said on Sunday (28th) that the replenishment of local
natural gas storage facilities was faster than originally planned, which is expected to allow
Germany to avoid serious natural gas shortages this winter. Local gas storage had
reached 82.2% as of Sunday, about a month ahead of the government's original 85% gas
storage target, according to the European Gas Infrastructure Group (GIE). The news
helped ease the market's concerns about a possible shortage of energy in Germany during
the winter, but high inflation driven by high energy prices may continue to plague
Germany's economic outlook.
